my comment on someone thoughts

My Comment on these thoughts
It is just not realistic to expect people to do that kind of research. Straight ticket voting might go against our founding fathers, but it is exactly what today’s America is about, quick and easy, nothing else. If people did that kind of research I seriously, doubt they would be voting inside their party lines anyway. Do not get me wrong personally, I do not think you should get a vote unless you do some investigation of the candidates but that will never happen. Straight line voting is in place because people have set political ideologies and believe (for some reason) that the politicians belonging to the same groups reflect these ideals.

Thoughts on Straight-Voting
In this editorial, “Don't vote straight-ticket”, published in the Dallas Morning Paper, is targeting the registered voters of Dallas and all the online readers that have not voted yet. He established his credibility by referencing specific candidates in specific state races and offers voting records, political history, and political advice. The writer advocates for each voter to not do the lazy thing and vote straight-ticket, but instead, investigate, research, and educate oneself on each candidate. In doing so, the writer claims that you will become an educated voter and will not be wasting one’s time in the voting booth. The author presents logical arguments by showing how a supporter of one party might support the more qualified candidate of another party and vice versa after they investigate the candidates further. The author also makes the powerful and persuasive argument concerning what could happen if a voter were to vote straight ticket by saying, “Voters who fall back on the straight-party option also will bypass legal heavyweights seeking judicial posts – jobs that have little to do with partisan politics.” I agree with the author. He makes a powerful claim and presents persuasive points. Voting-straight is plain lazy. It goes against everything our Founding Fathers had in mind when they founded out country and our democracy. As the author also said, by taking time to become educated on individual candidates, a voter will be doing justice to the voting system and democratic government. Not Nationwide

This editorial was written for all the people of Texas except of course for insurance agencies.
This editorial was upsetting enough to contemplate moving to a different state. This article is about how nationwide car insurance will go to any lengths to not pay for a claim. What makes this worse is that the Texas court system votes 87% of the time for insurers and large corporations, no joking aside that makes my stomach hurt. The fact that OUR own court system is for big business and not for the people is enraging, we need to stop allowing these people into office. WAKE UP PEOPLE! These things are not going to change until we say and do something, like I don’t know, maybe holding our political court systems and judges responsible for there actions.
This bulk of this editorial is about how upon running a red light and evading a police officer Richard gibbons accidently hit and severely injured the Tanner family including there 7 year old son. Because nationwide says that once Gibbins was speeding, he voided the terms of his insurance….Are you kidding me? If everyone obeyed, the speed limit and driving rules there would be NO need for insurance in the first place.
Have I mentioned the 87% of the cases in the Supreme Court that involve large corporations are awarded to said corporations? It is an important fact. If insurance companies are not going to do there job them we should not pay them. I for one recommend if nothing else, you drop your Nationwide Company. You have to hit businesses where it hurts in there profits.

Central Texas voters education

This Author is talking to the voting population of Austin as a whole. While this Author obviously has a positive outlook on the world for people like me, I think putting a band aid on a bleeding artery doesn’t make it better. The main issue I have with this editorial is the bill we passed for education in Austin. We as a city ALWAYS vote for ANYTHING related to schools and our children yet year after year the problem in the school system get worse and our idiot children get dumber and dumber. Stop giving money to school administrations that pocket it. This great new raise we gave our teachers that they so dearly deserve ends up being ( after being filter through the administration)approximately eighty dolor a paycheck. The only thing an eighty dollar raise does is remind you of how screwed you are financially. I say so no more money until the administration downsizes itself 50% and raises are given for teachers whose students increase their academic levels. Why does a teacher that passes anyone get the same raise as the teacher who’s up till two a.m. planning their curriculum and grading papers? They shouldn’t. I respect teachers and think that they are Americas top assets but if thy do not do the job they are hired for i.e. teach our children, then they shouldn’t be rewarded. Our schools are failing us and our children we need to take a stand and stop these bureaucracies from spreading like the cancer they are.

smear campaign

This article is about how the smear tactics of the Republican Party are losing their impact. They mainly focus on the rumor that presidential candidate Barak Obama is a Muslim, and that republicamsism is pro- American and those that don’t agree are anti-American.
The author of this article is obviously writing for the democratic viewpoint of their readers. There is no named author but the editorial board is named which says that more than one person’s opinion is being stated. The evidence they have used is the recent comments from vice presidential candidate Sarah Palines comment about “how glad she was to be in "pro-America areas of this great nation."”. Also the recent comment by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a Republican from Minnesota. In answering a question about Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama on a national cable show on Oct. 17, Bachmann said: "Absolutely — I'm very concerned that he may have anti-American views." They had no quotes about calling obama a Muslim.
While I agree with what this article is saying i.e. just because you don’t agree with GOP’s doesn’t mean you are anti-American and even if Obama is a Muslim (which he isn’t) should that change the fact that he is a good candidate. However the article is about smear tactics and they mention nothing of what the democrats have done, or the fact that obama just spent millions on a 30 min infomercial. Sarah Palin doesn’t need the democrats help making herself look under qualified or obtuse. You can’t scold one party and not the other. America loves smear campaigns, why do we do them? Because they work, if they didn’t no one would waste the money or time on them.

no more Cornyn

This author thinks that Texas should re-elect Sen. John Cornyn. He says that he is the better candidate because he can work next to democrats without yelling “spawns of Satan I command thee demons out”, or whatever right wing conservatives do when alone in a room with a democrat “a skill he may have to use often if the next Congress is as Democratic as polls suggest it will be and if he wants to accomplish anything for the nation and for Texas.”Texas Thanks you john for your ability to talk with democrats since you know it’s not like it’s your job or anything and it’s not like the major requirement to be in the senate is the ability to get what your state wants regardless of what political ideals are in the Whitehouse…or anything.

This author also stipulates that because Cornyn helped “ co-sponsored an effort with Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., for the federal government to regulate tobacco, and he worked with Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., on legislation to prosecute people in this country who committed genocide elsewhere.” This makes him the better candidate.

My favorite part of this article is when the author writes “And the public should especially appreciate Cornyn's work with Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., to pass legislation that significantly strengthened the Freedom of Information Act.” OHHH be impressed monkeys for the great senator fought to allow you the right to see public documents ( of course only after they have been lost or changed or sealed for “classified” reasons).

You know what I especially appreciate, that fact that Cornyn is on sooo many impressive committees like on armed services, on the budget on Judiciary, and is the vice chairman on committee on ethics. As the vice chairman for the ethics committee its his responsibility to make sure the people in congress aren’t doing anything unethical Like, steeling funds, taking bribes sleeping with hookers on the tax payers dime, suppressing documents or lying under oath. Wouldn’t you know it Coryn hasn’t deemed ANYONE unethical since he has been on the committee, good job John.

But I’ve gotten off my main point, the author likes Coryn because he feels he will do what Texas wants and on this one main point I must disagree. Why because 70% of us didn’t want a bailout, we wanted to eat ramen for a year until the market righted itself. Coryn voted for the bailout anyway. We now will never be out of debt because some of our biggest companies made horrible mistakes don’t let our congresspeople make more of their own mistakes. We said no, they did it anyway. Washington needs to be fired and if Coryn isn’t going to do what we want then we let him go and find people who will.

Vote Waller County......unless you aren't white

  • This is an article everyone should read because it shows us just how far we are from actual equality. This conserns every color and both genders,The fact that in 2008, not just a person but an entire freaking county, racially profiles and messes with others right to vote is insane. This article is about how Waller County voter registration practices violate Federal voting laws a lawsuit was issued on the grounds that the county violated a provision of the Civil Rights Act by rejecting certain registration applications on immaterial grounds. This is not the first time this County has been accused of racist practices. In 2006 over 300 students said they had to wait three to four hours to vote and ended up casting provisional ballots because their names were missing from election rosters. At the end of the day regardless of what color we are god we belive in or politician we like we are ALL Americans and if we can't band together there is no hope in a better future.
